The Medical Director of Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Dr Joseph Kojo Tambil has expressed appreciation to government for the assurance to engage with stakeholders on resolving all financial bottlenecks to secure funds necessary for the completion of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital redevelopment project.
Addressing participants at a public lecture in the Hospital to commemorate this year’s World Kidney Day, Dr Tambil indicated that the proposed redevelopment project will include a whole Renal Unit which will cater for kidney related infections in and around the region.
It would be recalled the erstwhile government introduced a free dialysis programme. Dr Tambil hinted that the hospital has rendered services running into thousands of Ghana cedis under the free dialysis programme and is awaiting reimbursement. He appealed to government to consider reimbursing the hospitals for the costs incurred to enable the hospital repay its creditors and overheads.
He commended the current government for the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund also known as ‘Mahama care’ to take care of non-communicable diseases, including kidney related ailments.
The World Kidney Day celebration activities were put together by the Internal Medicine Department of ENRH. The department put together a two week long celebration which included education in selected senior High Schools in the Sekondi Takoradi metro, Screening of market traders and drivers among others.
The Chief Director at the Western Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Stephen Quarshie who read a speech on behalf of the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, assured of government’s renewed fight and commitment to addressing the illegal mining menace and the pollution of drinking water sources suspected to be increasing kidney related infections in the region.
Dr Hilda Moore, a Physician Specialist from Cape Coast Teaching Hospital who was the guest speaker addressed participants on some causes, signs of unhealthy kidneys, how to monitor kidney health among others.
